Groupe des Cartothécaires de LIBER | Map Expert Group

This Internetsite consists of an overview of the activities of the European Map Curator's Group since 1978, the Progress Reports of separate countries since 1984 and most articles published since 1984 in The LIBER quarterly and its precursors.

The OVERVIEW describes the activities of this group since 1978. The first part is devoted to conferences and activities between 1978 and 1992, the other parts are devoted to the conference in Zürich, Switzerland, 1994, the conference in Berlin, Germany, 1996, the conference in Kraków, Poland, 1998, the conference in København, Danmark, 2000, the conference in Helsinki, Finland, 2002, Cambridge, Great Britain, 2004, Patris, France, 2006 and the last conference in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 2008. At the end a list of articles is appended, sorted by subject, which have been published since 1978 in the LIBER Bulletin and The LIBER Quarterly. Years signify the year in which the conference took place. Highlighted reports can be accessed.

Progress Report
Since 1984 all national/regional map curator groups participating in the Groupe des Cartothécaires de LIBER present a progress report concerning developments in the past two years on the bi-annual conferences, which take place in even years. Most progress reports are in English, some in French, some in German.

The matrix below tries to give an integrated overview of the activities of the LIBER-GdC since its beginnings in 1978 till 2004. The numbers in the brown cells give the year when a conference took place. Papers after (/) were read during the conference, but not published .TOTALS are the total of papers published/unpublished after the conferences and mostly republished on this website. Progress Report were only being presented and published from 1986 onwards.

1.When the hyperlink is activated the Babelfish () page will appear with the URL which should be translated. Choose the desired language by using the pull-down menu and then click on "TRANSLATE".
The Babelfish programme gives a rough translation of the original text. The better the grammar of the original text the better the translation, but you cannot rely on it. The programme has trouble with translating diacritical marks.Do not use the translation for official purposes.
When not the whole text is translated, due to its lenght, then transport the rest of the text to the Babelfish site with cut-and-paste techniques and be translated in parts. Unfortunately also all family- and christian names are translated.
As soon as the translation-programme is used all documents under hyperlinks will be translated automatically, but with the same restriction. When one wants the hyperlinked document in the original language the hyperlink should be activated from the original document.

"Babelfish" is from origin an universal translation-device in the form of a fish which is put in the ear and which first appeared in The (Ultimate)(Complete) Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Should it not work out as it is meant to be then use the galaxian hitchhiker's mantra: " DON'T PANIC!" Back to document
